Keith’s Work

Keith Brymer Jones: Ceramic Designer

Keith Brymer Jones is one of the UK’s most recognisable ceramic designers. Over the last twenty years, his work has been sold in some of the world’s most popular stores, including Habitat, John Lewis, Conran, Heals and Laura Ashley.

A former apprentice at Harefield Pottery, Keith started his own business following their relocation to Inverness, making up to 1000 handmade pieces per day to fulfil orders from his growing number of customers.

Famously dyslexic, much of his inspiration comes from the shape of words, which have been the foundation of his best-selling Word Range. Keith also takes inspiration from the things around him, such as his bucket mug, the shape of which was inspired by his potters’ bucket.

Keith himself describes his work as stylish, simple, practical and enjoyable. His favourite pieces include his bucket mug featuring the word “hot” thanks to its pleasing symmetry and items featuring the word “love”, a word he considers the most important.

Head of Design at MAKE International, a company he jointly owns with his business partner Dominic Speelman, Keith often collaborates with British designers like Bert Fowler – creating the shape of the ceramic which is then decorated with the designer’s artwork.

Keen to promote ceramic design, Keith can be seen travelling the world attending events and giving talks and tutorials throughout the year. Keith has also been featured as a judge on the Great British Throw Down.

Outside of ceramic design, Keith is well known for his YouTube channel, where he often recreates popular music videos with a pottery-themed twist. This helps combine two of Keith’s other passions – dance and music. Keith was a ballet dancer until 18 and also used to be the lead singer for punk band, The Wigs.
